Mapping Organized Crime and Human Trafficking in Peru
Description
Spring 2024
This project aims to create a database to study hidden crimes, such as human trafficking and sexual exploitation, in Peru, focusing on their connection to organized crime and illicit markets A detailed database of crimes, homicides, and police reports will be created at a street-level resolution using computational methods and spatial analysis. This database will provide a comprehensive understanding of crime and violence, particularly these often overlooked hidden crimes. Moreover, it will provide key insights for research and policymaking in South America, where organized crime networks exploit interconnected illicit markets and forced displacement, leading to high levels of violence in the region.
