Accounts of human language processing have long appealed to implicit “situation models” that enrich comprehension with relevant but unstated world knowledge that capture unstated relationships among entities. Pilot testing reveals that people are not at ceiling on free-response tasks that require situation models, and this will allow us to investigate the extent to which LMMs and humans find the same items challenging.
