
Musashi Jacobs-Harukawa is a Postdoctoral Research Associate with DDSS, where he works on applied machine learning and computational social science methodology. His specific interests are in text, measurement, and explanation. Prior to joining DDSS, Musashi was a pre-doctoral researcher at University College London, where he worked with Dr Lucy Barnes on the Mental Models of the Political Economy project.
Musashi received his DPhil in Politics from the University of Oxford, supervised by Dr Andy Eggers and Dr Ray Duch, where he wrote his thesis on novel applications of machine learning to the study of political campaigns. He also wrote and taught the Introduction to Python course for graduate students in the social sciences, and taught seminars in political science methodology and high-performance computing.
Prior to his graduate studies, Musashi worked in Tokyo as a data scientist in finance, and as an English teacher in Moscow.
